Tim Exile's JamPod

Jam Pods v1

A crowd participation project commissioned by Tim Exile (Warp Records). Tim was looking to build audience participation into his improvised live sets, so Jim Mellor and I designed two "pod" systems to enable this. Each pod consisted of an LED edge-lit acrylic panel suspended over the crowd. Beneath the first panel is a microphone, beneath the second a 3.5" headphone jack and a small monitor. The microphone and jack feed directly into Tim's Reaktor setup, meaning that samples are automatically added to his soundboard. Tim can choose when the mic and jack are activated, which is then relayed to the crowd via the acrylic panels glowing green (Reaktor via Arduino). When the mic and jack are in use, the panels glow red.
